Our Thoughts

The Forester is a favourite for Australian families, being one of the most popular medium SUVs seen on the road. We think that the 2015 Forester 2.0D-L is best suited to the modern family who needs flexibility and comfort in the family car.

A modern car for modern lives.

The introduction of Continuous Variable Transmission (CVT) brings the convenience and handling of automatic transmission into the Forester diesel range. The CVT system is both smooth and responsive, making it great for driving in the city or country. Trent Nikolic writing for Car Advice praises Subaru's CTV as one of the best in the market, and highlights its performance in all environments.

In terms of safety, the 2015 Forester has been awarded a 5 Star ANCAP safety rating. There are ample airbags and a specially designed chassis to absorb collisions and protect passengers from impact. However, it is worth noting that some cutting edge-safety features, such as Subaru’s EyeSight sensor system, are not included in the diesel models.

Fuel economy.

In the diesel variant of the Forester, Subaru has boasted a 1000km range from a single tank of fuel. Of course, this is a best case scenario--you might expect a typical tank is more likely to be in the range of 750kms. This is still quite impressive for such a comfortable and spacious vehicle.

Comfort.

If you’re going to be using the Forester as a primary family car for the years ahead, then comfort should be a high priority.

Luckily, the Forester delivers. Derek Ogen from Cars Guide notes there is plenty of headroom and legroom within the cabin, and the boot boasts a size that will meet most needs. A crisp audio system complete with touch-screen will provide enough media options, such as Bluetooth connectivity, to keep both driver and passengers entertained. As Feann Torr writing for motoring.com.au points out: it may not be the most high-tech system in the market, but it works just as intended.

On the road, the Subaru is a great all-rounder. In his test drive around Tasmania, Trent Nikolic appears to be calmly delighted at the performance of the Forester in all terrain types: "[The Forester] cruises along quietly, with impressive refinement from behind the wheel no matter how nasty the road surface". With the help of sound absorbing-material, Subaru has worked hard to make a diesel engine sound like a purring kitten, and bumps and shocks are barely noticeable.

Whether you’re stuck in traffic or exploring the countryside, even the youngest of passengers will have no complaints.
